STEP Flow model
In our media lessons we study different theories and their relevance to our present coursework, the theory based on the STEP flow model is something very useful, so I have put it on blogger so that it can be applied to my work. Here is the STEP flow model:

Terminology to learn and Apply
Audience Engagement - Describes how an audience interacts with a media text; different people react in different ways to the same text.
Audience Expectations - The audience advance ideas an audience may have about a text; this particularly applies to genre pieces. Dont forget that producers often play with or deliberatly shatter audience expectations.
Audience foreknowledge - definate information (rather than vague expectations) which an audience bring to a media product.
Audience identification- this is the way in which audience members feel themselves conected to a particular media text, in that they feel it direectly expresses their attitude or lifestyle.
Audience placement - the range of strategies media producers use to directly target a particular audience and make them feel that the media text is specifically for them.
Audience research - measuring an audience is very important to all media institutions. Research is done in all stages of production of media text, and, once produces, audience will be monitored.

This is an audio recording of Luke and I analysing our digipak that we created as preparation towards our second year of Media A level, the task was to create our own digipak according to a genre we were given, we recieved Hip Hop/ R&B, for this we created an artist called BJB, and created the suitable Digipak. This recording plays our evaluation answering questions from the teacher and classmembers, also pointing out some good elements of the digipak.

Theory Test's
Individual
1 - Intextuality?
Intertextuality occurs when a reference is made from one media type to another; for instance the song and video by Madonna 'Material Girls' and its reference to Marlyn Monroe from Diamonds are a girls best friend; the outfit and context was found in both, using reference from the past to gratify its audience and their understanding of two very iconic females in the media industry. This can occur between films, fashion, photography and art.
2 - Star image?
Star image is the element in the star theory, it applies to the image and representation of the parson as an artist. Representing the dress code can show moral beliefs or connections to a certain theme as a celebrity in the industry. For example when Lady GaGa wore an outfit made of meat, it wasn't because she thought it looked good. It was to represent that wearing fur is equally as bad as wearing raw meat; representing her beliefs for animal cruelty, this particular outfit was part of her individual campaign for PETA. This outfit she wore was so controversial, yet intentionally made to represent her as a strong moral believer.
3 - Iconography?
Iconography occurs when an artist and band tries to create an association between themselves and the media. Discussing imagery as iconography in this way implies a critical "reading" of imagery that often attempts to explore social and cultural values. Iconography is also used within film studies to describe the visual language of cinema, particularly within the field of genre criticism. For example Michael Jackson has many icons, his glove covering his hand, alongside his glasses which became a trend; this then became as an icon associated with Michael.
4 - Marketing?
Marketing is every source of advertising, distribution through viral and physical. There are two main types of marketing, the research and consumer based side; consisting of communication and developing the work towards the audience. The other side being the advertising and marketing side, consisting of the viral and direct campaigns advertising the artist or product.
Group Test.
1- Dgipacks consist if the CD, the front and back of the album cover, an inlay and the graphics on the CD, consisting of the elements involved to represent the artist as a package.
2- Intertextuality could be used frequently withing the narrative of a music video, the character could be watching a film. Listening to a song on their ipod etc.

Genre work and conventions for our digipack
Our group task is to design and produce a digipack for a new artist under the genre of R&B or Hip Hop, we have decided ti choose Hip Hop, similar to other artists.artist on the front cover
face shots
tyres/car items
flags
cartoons
old fashioned glasses
destruction
TV - children watching it
Streets and urban areas
Parental advisory stickers are often found.
American Flags
The wikipedia link offers more indepth detail about the origins and conventions of Hip Hop which I have read and intend to involve with our Media Digipack, the link to the website is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_hop_music.
We originally planned to stick to the comic style of the construction of a Hip Hop CD Genre, we produced the front cover involving the artist called 'Lil Crunk', an artist who we aimed to be a younger adult, just breaking into the music indistury; his CD cover involved a Plastic doll of a baby wearing the architectual 'Gangsta' Clothing. Ufortunatly this iconic cover was not suitable as it had to involve a photo which our group had taken personally.
